Geno Washington
and Yo Yo Blues

Geno Washington is a genuine full-on cult hero… a legend on the 60’s Soul scene. He enjoys such status on the Soul, R&B and Northern Soul scenes, due to his unsurpassable reputation as a live performer. He is electrifying on stage and his love of performance (and of life!) makes him an inspiration, a joy to witness, and one of the greatest frontmen from the latter half of the 20th century. Geno has recently played to a sell out audience as part of the Lord’s Taverners annual charity event at The Albert Hall. And this summer Geno has been picked to play as the main act at The Royal Festival Hall end of run party for Ray Davies’ Meltdown 2011
Yo Yo Blues! Is a recession busting Up-Tempo, ‘kick ass’ show featuring Geno’s 4 piece combo, Yo Yo Blues. Geno, with half of the Ram Jam Band take to the streets to play a blistering party set of pared down Soul, Blues, Jump and R&B to make the joint jump. Geno has great Blues and party pedigree, as well as soul, having released three blues albums to date (‘Loose Lips’, ‘Change Your Thoughts You Change Your Life’ and ‘What’s in The Pot?’) and also having played at parties for some unmentionably high end individuals)

Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band History proves Geno to be something of an enigma too. Without ever having had a number one single, Geno had two of the biggest selling U.K. albums of the sixties. Amazingly both of these were live albums.

‘Hand Clappin’ Foot Stompin’ Funky Butt Live’, for example, was in the U.K. album charts for 48 out of 52 weeks in 1966. Incredibly, only ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ sold more copies in the UK that year… a fact that is a clear testament to Geno’s awesome ability as a live performer who connects with his audience.
